The app connects passengers and drivers traveling along predefined HOV routes, giving both sides real time visibility into stops, activity, approaching users, and estimated arrival times.

Project Overview

Slug Commute was created to simplify the daily commute for local residents who find it difficult to travel between city areas and the capital on their own. The goal was to build a reliable commuter platform where drivers and passengers can connect around fixed pickup and drop off locations without depending on scattered messages, calls, or informal coordination.

Slug Commute was designed as a complete commuter app experience for both passengers and drivers. The process started by understanding how local HOV commuting works, how users choose stops, and what information they need before deciding to wait, ride, or continue moving.

The final product includes separate flows for passengers and drivers, with role based onboarding, registration, email verification, stop selection, live map screens, trip status, subscriptions, profile management, route activity, and notification settings.

For passengers, the app makes it easier to find nearby stops, view approaching drivers, track ETAs, and stay informed about commute activity. For drivers, the app provides route visibility, passenger counts at stops, active trip screens, stop updates, vehicle details, and route management tools.The admin panel was also planned to support route management, stop management, user accounts, subscriptions, live activity, reports, and demand insights.

Challenges

Daily commuting is already stressful. The real challenge was not just building another travel app. The goal was to digitize a local commuter system that depends on timing, trust, route awareness, and quick decisions.

Passengers need to know whether a driver is coming. Drivers need to know whether passengers are waiting. Admins need to manage routes, stops, users, and activity from one place. That is where the product needed solid UX thinking, real time logic, and a scalable technical foundation.

A Structured Product Approach

Product Discovery and UX Planning

We started by mapping the commuter journey for both passengers and drivers. The goal was to understand how users select stops, check activity, view arrivals, and complete their commute with fewer steps.

Role Based App Experience

We designed separate passenger and driver flows while keeping the overall product experience consistent. This allowed each user type to access the right tools without unnecessary screens or confusion.

Real Time Stop Visibility

The app experience was planned around live stop activity. Passengers can view approaching drivers, driver counts, and ETA details, while drivers can view passenger counts and stop activity along their assigned route.

Map First Navigation

We created map based screens to help users quickly understand routes, nearby stops, trip status, pickup points, and active commute movement. This made the app more practical for real commuting situations.

Driver Registration and Vehicle Approval Flow

The driver side includes registration, email verification, vehicle detail submission, document upload, and approval status screens. This creates a more controlled and trustworthy driver onboarding process.

Passenger Friendly Commute Flow

The passenger experience focuses on easy stop selection, approaching driver visibility, trip status, ride details, and clear notifications. The app keeps the commute journey simple from login to ride completion.

Subscription and Profile Management

We designed subscription, profile, notification, location, and account settings so users can manage their app access and personal preferences from one place.

Admin Dashboard Planning

The backend ecosystem includes admin tools for managing routes, stops, users, subscriptions, live commute data, reports, demand trends, and activity logs.

Cross Platform Development

The mobile app was built for both iOS and Android using a cross platform development approach, helping the product stay consistent across devices while keeping development efficient.
